MY BLINGED OUT UGLY VASE

My husband brought home these very sentimental ugly vases from his mom's, and said that I could not get rid of them, and that I had to display them "somewhere"......uh, not gonna happen!

These vases are from the late 60s early 70s. They may have been "beautiful" then, but kind of ugly to me now.

My inspiration came from Preston Bailey, who is one of my favourite event designers, and I love the work that he does. I saw a floral centerpiece that he did that reminded me of the shape of my "kind of ugly vase." So, I decided that I would make some small fabric roses, and glue them on.

You can use any flower.   Also, I plan on using it in my Christmas decor.

The display shown included some pearl accents that I won from David Tutera. I love David, and his work. You can use these accent pearls in any way you like. Thank you David.

Take a look, hope you like.

This was my inspiration.  Preston Bailey's arrangement.  Breathtakingly, gorgeous!

These are the ugly vases.

Needed to knock off some protruding ugly roses.....lol

This is how it turned out.

I added  some ribbon and a rhinestone buckle.

The pearls from David Tutera.

The pearls in a small round vase, in water.

Half way done.

Now this I can display.

  10. Personally i thought they were nicer before you glued all the rosettes all over them, perhaps of course we have different taste, but i think you made them look worse than they were... Not being snotty but its just my opinion i thought they were gorgeous originally. Im only 31 so dont think im some olf lady croney.

  11. I liked the original vases, It is very creative and nice altered, but I like old timey looking things. I'm not really a fan of silk flowers either. Hope those vases weren't antiques, they could have been worth money some day. :)

  12. I agree. Those were heirlooms and most likely antiques. Yes, old fashioned, but some items are meant to be passed down. I agree with updating, tweaking and re-inventing, but those were classic pieces.

  13. Thank you for commenting. The vases were not antiques. I did check. They did not fit my decor, and I thought they would look better giving them a makeover.
The flowers are not silk, they are handmade rosettes made of satin fabric. I plan on making over the other one for my mother in law.
I think she may like the change, since she was going to throw them away.

    Have a great day.

  16. I love these!

My husband has brought home some pretty ugly things from my MILs, well ugly to me, we grew up in two different worlds. Alot of wildlife/hunting kind of stuff, with the right decor it would look right (and by that I mean animal heads all over the wall) so they're sitting in my basement. My MIL passed it along with a bunch of other decorative stuff that we did use when we bought our house and said use what we want and donate what we don't lol.

But those vases....they blow my ugly collection out of the water lol. I LOVE your redesign and you have the gears turning in my head for things I can do to improve some of the things I have downstairs.

  17. Thanks for commenting Crystal. Wow, all those animal heads....lol
Nothing wrong with animal heads but you have to have the right home for that type of stuff.

I am going to do another vase makeover for my MIL's 85th birthday, and add some flowers to it. She will be shocked with the new look to her old vases. I will post it.

    Have a great day.

  18. Words cannot begin to express how much prettier those are now! Just gorgeous with those belts cinching the "waistline"!!! And the pearls added to the individual blades of grass is such a pretty touch! I like them scattered, too!

  20. Clever makeover that makes you happy, win! I think in the right room with the right style the original look of those vases could be a bohemian/hipster's dream.I would have probably painted them gloss black for Halloween, then gloss white for a classy Christmas look. They are YOURS to do with as you wish!

  21. Thanks for commenting Ann. I really appreciate it.
I did think of painting them initially. That is good idea too.
I do plan on using them for Christmas with some type of flower in it.
    Have a great day.
